Overview
Windsurf is an AI IDE whose 'Cascade' agent kept the editor and agent in sync, autonomously navigating, editing, and running the codebase. After OpenAI acquisition talks collapsed in 2025, Cognition (maker of Devin) acquired Windsurf, and on June 2, 2026 rebranded it as 'Devin Desktop,' with Cascade replaced by 'Devin Local.' It remains the desktop/IDE counterpart to Cognition's autonomous Devin agent.
